World Polio Day, we were proud to hold our 3rd Polio End Games Bingo Fundraiser at The Attic. We are ecstatic to announce that at this joint event, co-hosted with Rotary Central Cayman Islands, we raised a whopping US$5,403 dollars that will be donated to the End Polio Now to support the Global Eradication Effort to End Polio. Due to the generosity of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, who have pledged their commitment to this global effort by tripling all Polio Plus donations, our raised amount of US$1,801 was tripled to US$5,403. The overwhelming support we have received will result in over 36,000 children receiving vaccinations against Polio. The success of the night would not have been possible without the vast contributions of the community through the donation of raffle prizes. We would like to thank our club members for their individual donations and more specifically the sponsors of our prizes of the evening.
We could not have done this without your unwavering support and belief in our organization. There is no cure for Polio, however the disease is preventable through vaccination. There are currently only two countries left in the world, Pakistan and Afghanistan, where the Wild Polio virus is found. Thank you for helping us in our fight to make history! |

"Whoever you are, wherever you are, water is your human right." #WorldWaterDayThe theme for World Water Day 2019 is βLeaving no one behindβ. Today, billions of people are still living without safe water β their households, schools, workplaces, farms and factories struggling to survive and thrive. Access to water underpins public health and is therefore critical to sustainable development and a stable and prosperous world. We cannot move forward as a global society while so many people are living without safe water.
Water conservation also plays an important part and should begin from the household use by providing information and assistance with how they can reduce the amount of the water they use every day. |

KNOW YOUR STATUSβοΈ HIV continues to be a major global public health issue, having claimed more than 35 million lives so far. There were approximately 36.9 million people living with HIV at the end of 2017. HIV infection is often diagnosed through rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs), which detect the presence or absence of HIV antibodies. There is no cure for HIV infection. However, effective antiretroviral (ARV) drugs can control the virus and help prevent transmission so that people with HIV, and those at substantial risk, can enjoy healthy, long and productive lives. Know your risks - get tested. Rotaract Blue seeks to actively raise awareness about and assist the Cayman AIDS Foundation in its efforts to control and prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS in the Cayman Islands and help those living with HIV/AIDS. |

#TeamCayman had a great time at the 2018 Rotaract District 7020 Conference (also known as the Werl Boss Conference) this past week in Miami, Florida. Members of both Blue and Rotaract Club of Grand Cayman were in attendance. We even had a surprise visit from a Blue prospective and had the opportunity to hear our Blue Past President and Past District Rotaract Representative (PDRR) Marzeta Bodden speak on Entrepreneurship during a session! How wonderful is that?! From in-depth training sessions on leadership, personal branding, budgeting and more to fellowships and fetes - it was not only a fun experience but also an educational one. Did I say it was a lot of fun? We are already looking forward to Bahamas in 2019! Special thank you to the Rotaractors of the British Virgin Islands for doing what some may have called the impossible and hosting a successful conference in another country after being devastated by hurricanes last year. That alone shows the resilience and dedication of Rotaractors. NEXT SLIDE PLEASE! Attending a Rotaract District 7020 Conference is a great opportunity to network with other Rotaractors and Rotarians from our district and in some cases, from around the world. You will be able to see the amazing work that other clubs in our district are doing and how we really do make an impact in our countries and throughout the world. Not only can you also gain friends and possible mentors but you will attend sessions that contribute to your personal and professional development. This experience is not only beneficial throughout your Rotaract journey but also throughout your life. Stay tuned for more details on the 2019 Rotaract District 7020 Conference. |

![]() World Water Day, on 22 March every year, is about focusing attention on the importance of water. This yearβs theme, βNature for Waterβ, explores nature-based solutions (NBS) to the water challenges we face in the 21st century. βThe answer is in natureβ and raises awareness of NBS. The central message that NBS, such as planting trees to replenish forests, reconnecting rivers to floodplains, and restoring wetlands, is a sustainable and cost-effective way to help rebalance the water cycle, mitigate the effects of climate change and improve human health and livelihoods. By using NBS to help meet the water needs of a growing population, we will contribute to the creation of a circular economy, at the same time as helping to protect the natural environment and reduce pollution. ![]() We had such a great time at President Louise's house for our retreat that we all forgot to take pictures. Let's talk about being in the moment. Our fun filled retreat was staged as the special VIP dinner of Dr. Doom. A brief description of the evening: Dr. Larry Doom was the heir of the Doom estate and a rather famous chemist. He led a troublesome life full of misery, lies, and deceitful practices. Reflecting upon the past, he decided to host a VIP dinner at his home, the old Doom Mansion, in hopes to resolve the differences with those he had wronged throughout his life. Most of the guests accepted his humble invitation and arrived at the mansion in style to enjoy a delectable dining experience and good company. The evening started out fabulously and Dr. Doom commenced his quest to make amends with his family and past acquaintances. As the evening progressed, Dr. Doom found it difficult to deal with some of his invited guests as in addition to their sordid past with himβ¦many also had serious conflicts with each other! As the evening progressed, tension filled the air and to everyoneβs shock, Dr. Doomβs priceless diamond encrusted pterodactyl egg was found missing and in its place was a ransom note for a million dollars! The guests quickly rallied together to investigate whodunit before the thief could get away. The investigators took a few breaks from the stress of the intense investigation to dine on a tasty dinner, play exciting games and to savor on hot chocolate and desserts before coming to a final conclusion of who the naughty thief was! Members acted out the different characters until be discovered who the deceitful culprit was. The actors did a great job at portraying the roles and we later discovered that it was Dr. Doom's beautiful and elegant niece, Miss Crimson who stole the marvelous egg. See the different characters below. |

![]() Over 200 civil servants took part in a dress down day to support Rotaract Blue’s Open Arms Programme on Thursday, 28 March 2013. Open Arms promotes non-discrimination for disabled persons and aims to help integrate those living with disabilities into the community while providing support and recognition to persons who care for them.
As part of this year’s programme, Rotaract Blue organized dress down months to raise awareness of the different disorders, and asking companies to wear a specific colour associated with the disorder on any chosen day that represent disorders. For the remaining months, and according to international standards: purple is for Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) in March, grey for Dyslexia in April, and teal for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in May.
The Honourable Deputy Governor and Head of the Civil Service, Mr. Franz Manderson, JP said, “On behalf of the entire Civil Service, I commend Rotaract Blue on their efforts within the Open Arms Programme and I am pleased that we were able to support persons living with disorders through this initiative. I wish to thank the many Civil Servants who participated in this dress down day. I look forward to the Civil Service participating in similar initiatives in the future, as we work towards becoming more community-minded.”
The Cayman Islands Civil Service, which is the second organisation to participate in the programme, donated a total of CI$1135 to support the fight against ADD in March. Ministry of Finance had the largest number of participants with 46 staff taking part.
Club President Jacqueline Golding-McDonald said, “The response from the Civil Service has been overwhelming. As Aristotle says: The ultimate value of life depends on awareness and the power of contemplation rather than mere survival – and bringing awareness and promoting non-discrimination is what we aim to do with our Open Arms Programme.”
With over one billion people living with disabilities around the world, Rotaract Blue stands committed to this initiative. Over 200 civil servants took part in a dress down day to support Rotaract Blue’s Open Arms Programme on Thursday, 28 March 2013. Open Arms promotes non-discrimination for disabled persons and aims to help integrate those living with disabilities into the community while providing support and recognition to persons who care for them. |

A donation from a local business is assisting Rotaract Blue’s efforts to help the disabled community. After a series of dress down days in January, Deloitte recently donated about US$1,000 toward the club’s Open Arms Award Programme. Deloitte also assisted with the donation of five computers for the Sunrise Adult Training Centre. Staff at Computer Geekz volunteered time to ensure that the computers have been kept updated and functioning at maximum capacity. Recognising the potential value of this partnership, Deloitte’s Managing Partner Stu Sybersma said: “The Deloitte management and staff are pleased to have been able to contribute and I commend Rotaract Blue for introducing the Open Arms Programme to our community. A project like this was much needed and it is a great honour to join the club in their efforts to build awareness about disabilities and honouring those who go that extra mile.” Club President Jacqueline Golding-McDonald said: “Assisting the community has always been at the heart of Rotaract Blue and we are grateful to Deloitte for sharing this vision with us. We are confident that their contribution will enhance our awareness in helping to build a stronger community through our Open Arms Programme.” The club is encouraging other companies to join the initiative by helping to raise awareness and promote nondiscrimination for the disabled community. Companies can organise dress down days by wearing specific colours, which will help represent disorders: blue and yellow for Down’s syndrome, purple for attention deficit disorder, grey for dyslexia and teal for obsessive compulsive disorder.

November 3 2011, Rotaract Blue hosted “Shades of Red”, an annual wine tasting event to benefit the Cayman AIDS Foundation. This annual event utilizes a warm and relaxed atmosphere in an effort to raise awareness about and encourage healthy lifestyle choices that prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. HIV/AIDS education is one of Rotaract Blue’s key platforms. This year’s event was hosted at The Brasserie with the theme: “Night in Paris”. Guests were treated to exquisite wines from France specially handpicked by sommeliers Roberto Logioia Dette of Blackbeard’s and Harvey Setterfield of Vino Veritas. Exotic canapés by Brasserie's culinary team and soft music by Eugenio Leon completed a perfect atmosphere. The event allowed Rotaract Blue to make a donation of CI$4,000 to the Cayman AIDS Foundation. On receiving the donation, Cherine Usherwood, Vice President of the Cayman AIDS Foundation, expressed deep gratitude and encouraged Rotaract Blue to continue its support of the Foundation. Jacqueline Golding-McDonald, President of Rotaract Blue, said, “I am happy to see the continued positive results of Shades of Red. The event has allowed us to shed light on a community issue and make an impact in a way that is of great benefit to the Cayman Islands and its people. We are grateful for the momentum that this event has garnered in terms of public support and its ongoing contribution to the fight against HIV/AIDS. Rotaract Blue is proud to be part of the solution.”
Rotaract Blue would like to thank the sponsors of Shades of Red: Blackbeard's, Butterfield Bank, Cayman Airways, Cayman National, DART Cayman Islands, David Goddard Photography, dms Broadcasting Ltd., Intec Research Production Services, Island Companies, LIME, Maples, UBS, Voss Water, and The Brasserie. The support of these organisations is invaluable in enhancing the awareness and prevention of HIV/AIDS.
