Last Saturday, 24 August, members and friends of Rotaract Blue paid a special visit to the residents of The Pines Retirement Home as their annual voluntary project.

The group were greeted with smiles and open hearts. While some served food and snacks, others joined in for sing-a-longs. By a popular request, food was donated by Popeye’s.

Project Coordinator, Director Khalesiah Barboram said, “Each year, feeding the elderly brings such warmth and fulfillment - and this year was no different. This is an opportunity to show how much we appreciate and value our elderly persons.”

Despite their medical condition, the residents remained cheerful and some even reminisced about the good old days.

For Ms Barboram, interacting with the residents served as a powerful reminder that young persons should make the best of their youthful days so that they can relive those happy moments when they grow older.

The experience was a mutually rewarding one. Not only did the residents and caretakers enjoy the company of fresh new faces but Rotaractors also gained some valuable insight. The club expressed much thanks to Popeye’s and certainly looks forward to next year’s visit.
